Meet the Rosalie Bay Resort staff

Beverly Deikel

Beverly Deikel & Patris Oscar

Owner, Rosalie Bay Resort

Beverly (affectionately called Bev) Deikel is an American ex-pat from Minneapolis, Minnesota. She fell in love with Dominica years ago when she was sailing through the Caribbean and stopped for a two-day visit.

But she fell even more deeply in love with the island, its nature, the people and the beautiful property that would later become Rosalie Bay Resort.

Bev, and her partner Patris Oscar who is from Dominica, built Rosalie Bay Resort to share the beauty of Dominica with visitors, protect the environment and empower the local residents.

Bev and Oscar founded the first sea turtle conservation program on Dominica. They have also worked with the local school literacy program, the island's homeless organization and a group that provides support to at-risk and abused youth.

Both active and wellness-focused individuals, Bev and Oscar have hiked many of Dominica’s 300 miles of trails and made several strenuous treks to Boiling Lake. Their wellness touches are visible at the resort in its healthy cuisine, organic garden, nature-inspired spa and expansive fitness center.

View more about Bev’s inspiring journey to Dominica and saving the sea turtles in this episode of EX-PATs, created in cooperation with Travel + Leisure magazine.

Resort Manager

Daryl Aaron

Resort Manager

Daryl, a native of Dominica, has been at Rosalie Bay Resort for more than four years. With nearly two decades of experience, a passion for hospitality and a friendly, outgoing personality, Daryl was an ideal fit for our eco-boutique resort.

Her career in the hospitality industry has primarily focused on hotel operations management. Daryl holds certificates in Human Resource Management, Total Quality Management and Computer Programming. In addition, she has a degree in Hotel Operations Management, and diplomas in Business Management and Administration. Her dream is to one day own a hotel or resort.

Activities Coordinator

Judy Joyce

Activities Coordinator

Judy leads many of Rosalie Bay Resort’s environmental and wellness initiatives, as she helps guests discover everything the Nature Island has to offer.

One of Judy’s biggest accomplishments is fulfilling her childhood dream of joining the Peace Corps. For her assignment, she was placed in Dominica for a role involving ecotourism development. Dominica’s natural beauty and adventurous lifestyle quickly found a place into Judy’s heart. When her Peace Corp service concluded, she decided to stay on the Nature Island.

Judy has been instrumental in NET (Nature Enhancement Team) Rosalie, our onsite conservation program to protect endangered sea turtles that nest on our beach. Whether she is presenting a “Turtle Talk,” leading a hike through Petite Soufriere, teaching yoga or maintaining our organic garden, Judy says she is delighted to share her appreciation of nature with our wonderful guests.

Head Kitchen Supervisor

Seraphine Hector

Head Kitchen Supervisor/Chef

Seraphine’s passion is cooking for others. She learned to cook at an early age with her mother, and later expanded her skills by learning from a kind woman she lived with while attending a school in town.

Seraphine has been cooking at Rosalie Bay Resort for more than 10 years, almost since the beginning of construction. She would provide daily meals for the construction crews, cooked with fresh local ingredients and love on a single coal pot stove. Sometimes she would feed as many as 40 people for lunch all by herself.

When the resort opened, it was an obvious and natural transition to bring Seraphine and her love of cooking into our Zamaan restaurant. Her favorite part of the job is sharing Dominican specialties with our guests.

Guest Relations Coordinator

Zena George-Matthew

Guest Relations Coordinator

Zena has been part of the Front Desk team at Rosalie Bay Resort since October 2010. She enjoys meeting new friends, and getting to know guests and visitors from different cultures and lifestyles.

A native Dominican from the nearby village of La Plaine, Zena is extremely knowledgeable about the island. She enjoys helping our guests experience the beauty of Dominica and a memorable vacation, so they will want to return.

For your first Dominica vacation, Zena recommends spending more than a weekend to experience the many waterfalls and hiking trails in Dominica as well as allow time to just relax.

Security Supervisory Team

Sean George

Security Supervisory Team

A resident of the nearby village of RiviereCirique, Sean has worked at Rosalie Bay for five years. He is often one of the first faces you see when you arrive through the gates of Rosalie Bay. If you do not meet him upon arrival at the security booth, you will most likely see him walking the paths of the property. You will recognize him by his friendly nature and easy smile.

Sean frequently makes an appearance at our weekly Manager’s Welcome Reception where he enjoys meeting guests. He would like you to know that Rosalie Bay is in a very safe, secure location, but if any problem should ever arise, security is available 24 hours a day.

Tour Guide

Zahir Oscar

Tour Guide/Driver

Zahir has been guiding hikes and hosting tours on Dominica for more than a decade. In fact, Zahir has hiked to the Boiling Lake more than 180 times! His best time is 3.5 hours round trip. These days he prefers taking guests on daily excursions to share and explore the vast beauty of Dominica, especially Sari Sari Falls.

To best enjoy your visit to Dominica and any excursion, Zahir recommends bringing shoes that are supportive with good traction and that can get wet, as trails can be slippery.
