Are you ready for a full day of rainforest hiking? Both of these trails are located in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park and offer uniquely different experiences.

Your guide will drive you across the island, through the capital of Roseau, and up into the Roseau Valley. Your first destination, Middleham Falls trail, leads you into the heart of the rainforest. The canopy-covered trail, combined with the cooler temperature from the elevation, provides a welcome relief from the midday sun. The falls are striking — a narrow stream drops 200 feet from a keyhole notch in the cliff lip. Enjoy a chilly dip!

The second half leads you to Fresh Water Lake, the largest of Dominica’s lakes. Located above the village of Laudat, more than 2,500 feet above sea level, it lies at the center of an old volcano at the foot of Morne Macaque, the source of the Roseau River.

A challenging 2.5-mile trail takes you around the lake, summiting two peaks along the way, and providing spectacular views. Particularly inspiring is the valley vista to distant Rosalie Bay on the other side of the island. Our wind turbine stands as a sentinel and beacon on the coast. The steep pitches, and portions of the trail along the tops of wind-swept ridges within the clouds, are awe-inspiring, but not for the faint of heart (or knees).

Bring hiking shoes. Good warm-up to Boiling Lake and Valley of Desolation. Packed lunch available for purchase.
