Every year, from March to October, something magical happens at Rosalie Bay Eco Resort & Spa. It’s turtle season, and we’re excited to share this experience with you. Our resort was built on a turtle nesting beach in Dominica, and we’ve made it our mission to protect these endangered creatures that grace our shores.
We’re fortunate to have three species of turtles that come to Rosalie Bay to lay their eggs: the hawksbill, green turtle, and the majestic leatherback. These turtles have been coming to our beach for generations, and we’re committed to ensuring their safety during their nesting season.
Each night during turtle season, members of a local wildlife protection group called the Nature Enhancement Team patrol the beach for these magnificent creatures. They’re a dedicated group of individuals who gather data, tag the turtles that have not yet been tagged, and protect the turtles and their eggs from poachers. They also relocate any eggs too close to the shore line, so they’re not washed away by the tide.
We invite you to join us in our efforts to protect the turtles from extinction. When you stay at Rosalie Bay during turtle season, you can witness these creatures coming ashore to lay their eggs. You can also volunteer to patrol the beach at night with the Nature Enhancement Team, donate money or resources, or simply learn more about these amazing creatures from Judy and Simon, the leaders of the Nature Enhancement Team.
Before you leave, we ask that you make a small contribution to the Nature Enhancement Team to continue their efforts to protect the turtles. Judy and Simon are always willing to meet and teach, so be a part of the effort to protect these beautiful animals.
Turtle season is a special time of year at Rosalie Bay, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Book your stay and experience the wonder of these magnificent creatures.
