Summer brings more excitement on the water than sea turtles. Dive Fest, an annual event hosted by the Dominica Watersports Association in Soufriere, is always a fun time for locals and visitors alike.
This year’s celebration took place July 5th through July 14th, marking the event’s 20th anniversary. Dive Fest offered a variety of fun events and activities, including whale watching, diving, snorkeling, canoe racing, food and drink parties, and more.
Our friendly staff joined the fun on Sunday’s Kubuli Canoe Race, where attendees teamed up into groups of four for some friendly competition. Tour guide Zahir was on the water, rowing for team Rosalie Bay, while many of the staff at Rosalie Bay gathered around to cheer on the team.
One broken paddle and a few laughs later, the Rosalie Bay team crossed the finish line in last place. The team was all smiles though, as they had a blast racing for the win.
We are already looking forward to next year’s Dive Fest and invite you to join us.
In the meantime, Rosalie Bay offers guided tours to Soufriere, on the southwest portion of Dominica. Explore the area and village of Soufriere, with snorkeling in the famous Champagne Reef and hikes that provide beautiful views sure to draw you back for the 2014 Dive Fest event.
