Wellness Wednesday: Avocado

Weekly tips to bring island-inspired wellness into your everyday life from the wellness and spa team at Rosalie Bay Resort, Dominica. Post written by Spa and Wellness Coordinator Laura Lund.

On Dominica, the avocado is a perfect example of the fertility of the island. It grows to the size of a cantaloupe, and the skin falls off so easily you can peel it like a banana. The fruit offers many benefits to our health and is a tasty addition to many recipes.

Avocados provide the body with nutrients such as fiber, potassium, folate, and vitamins C, K and B6. The fat composition of the avocado is antioxidant, cardio-protective, and helps regulate blood sugar and improve nutrition through better absorption. When you add avocado to your salad, it increases the absorption of the antioxidants lycopene (found in tomatoes) and carotenoids (carrots, dark leafy greens, sweet potatoes, tomatoes).

Your skin can benefit from the avocado as well, both by eating it, and applying it topically as a mask to hydrate and nourish dry skin. At Rosalie Bay, we invite you to try it in our Feed Your Skin Facial at our spa.
