Perk Up with Dominican Coffee

Did you know that the cup of coffee you sip at Rosalie Bay Resort originates not too far from our eco-resort?

The coffee industry is percolating on Dominica.  As the Caribbean’s Nature Island, Dominica has the necessary natural resources as well as an ideal altitude for growing the finest Arabica coffee.

Coffee beans grow all over the island. The process from picking to brewing is fairly simple.

It begins by harvesting the beans. The beans are ready for picking when they are plump and red. The beans are enclosed in an outer shell, which is removed either manually or by a machine. Once detached, the individual shells are washed and dried thoroughly and the green colored beans are separated from their outer layer. Finally, the beans are roasted for 10-15 minutes to enhance the quality of the coffee.

At Rosalie Bay, we purchase coffee beans from local farmers. The outer shell is removed by hand here at the resort by our Food & Beverage team, including Melissa and Amelia pictured here. The beans are then roasted once a week over an open flame by Chef Seraphine. This process is essential in producing a fresh cup every time. The blend produced is a strong, dark roast sure to stimulate the senses and suitable for those who enjoy an invigorating cup.

How do you take your coffee? Whether it’s black or with cream or sugar, it will surely perk you up and it’s also good for your health.
