Wellness Wednesday: A Squeeze of Lime

Weekly tips to bring island-inspired wellness into your everyday life from Rosalie Bay Resort wellness coordinator Laura Lund.

Since the 16th century when Spanish explorers brought limes to the West Indies, the citrus has flourished in the region’s tropical climate. Today, limes serve an important role in our economy as they are one of 10 species of citrus trees that are cultivated.

More than a juice, limes in their entirety provide a wealth of wellness benefits. The leaves of the lime tree are used in tea to treat of fevers, colds, flu and stomach disorders. The fruit is used to wash fish, flavor drinks, manufacture cordials and season food.

It is no secret that lime is rich in Vitamin C, having long been used in cold remedies. Lime is also exceptional for keeping the entire digestive tract clean and functioning well. In addition, it has been shown to reduce cell division in cancer cells and help with weight loss, urinary problems, arthritis and overall health.

Your skin can benefit from lime when used topically or internally, and why it’s used in the facials at our Dominica spa whenever possible.

At home, incorporating this popular and powerful citrus into your daily routine is easy. Just try adding half a lime to your water once or twice a day.

Cheers to good health!
