Organic basil grown at Rosalie Bay Resort, DominicaThis beautiful leafy herb, with its divine scent, stems from India where it is considered a cure-all and used medicinally as a safe, effective treatment for many common ailments. The volatile oils found in basil have powerful anti-inflammatory compounds that may provide relief from rheumatoid arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, colds and even the flu.

Basil’s nutrient composition is impressive, containing vitamin K, beta-carotene, magnesium, iron and calcium. It is cardio protective, has many flavonoids that protect cells, and is anti-bacterial. Basil is also considered to be a blood tonic and immune booster.

In Dominica, basil is called basilica. It grows wild, is used in cooking and brewed as a tea. At Rosalie Bay Resort, you’ll find basil grown in our organic garden in several dishes at Zamaan Restaurant including the shrimp kabob, pizza and pastas.

Spice up your plate and improve your health by adding basil to your next meal.
