Have you ever wondered why a visit to the ocean leaves you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated? It has more to do with the health benefits of the sea than you may realize.

The fresh sea air is charged with negative ions that leave you feeling relaxed, healthy and energized. This may be due to the fact that these ions help us absorb more oxygen and help balance serotonin, a neurotransmitter associated with feelings of well-being and happiness.

The sounds of the ocean waves and the warmth of the sun also play a role in boosting our health. The sounds help sooth us into a calmer state while the sunshine affects our endocrine system, which releases endorphins and helps lower stress levels.

If you have the winter blues, a few days by the ocean may be just what you need to cure it. Escape the cold and let the waves of the Atlantic Ocean re-energize you.
