Wellness Wednesday: Crescent Lunge and Twist

This week we are sharing two yoga poses you can use in sequence to incorporate into your yoga routine and strengthen your body.

Crescent lunge

Crescent lunge is a great pose to help create strength and balance within the body. It is a full body pose stretching and strengthening the spine, arms, legs and belly.

From a standing position: Crescent Lunge Pose from Wellness Coordinator Laura Lund at Rosalie Bay Resort on Dominica

  • Take a giant step forward with your right foot
  • Bend the right knee deeply and try to get the thigh parallel to the ground
  • Reach both arms up toward the sky with the palms facing each other
  • Hold for 5 deep breaths

Crescent twist

Crescent twist massages the digestive organs improving digestion while stretching the buttocks legs, spine and shoulders.

  • Take your hands to prayer position with the thumbs resting on your sternum
  • Twist toward the right, press your left elbow against the outside of your right knee and twist deeply
  • Breathe deep from your diaphragm
  • Lengthen your spine on the inhale
  • Twist on the exhale
  • Hold for 5 deep breaths

Tip: If it is difficult to balance in either pose, lower your back knee to the ground for stability. Complete the sequence with conscious relaxation.
