Wellness Wednesday: Sorrel Juice

Weekly tips to bring island-inspired wellness into your everyday life from the wellness and spa team at Rosalie Bay Resort, Dominica. Post written by Spa and Wellness Coordinator Laura Lund.

Sorrel is a perennial herb related to the hibiscus species. The little plant is abundant in the Caribbean this time of year when it produces gorgeous, red crown-shaped flowers. In addition to its beauty, the health properties of sorrel are abundant. Loaded with anti-oxidants, flavonoids, vitamin C, calcium, niacin and riboflavin, this delightful nectar is sure to boost your immune system and keep you healthy throughout the holiday season.

Drink in the benefits by turning sorrel into a healthy and festive holiday drink. The crowns of the plant have a sour taste similar to cranberry. When boiled with cinnamon and/or ginger, the juice achieves the perfect balance of flavor. Sorrel juice is made fresh at our Zamaan Restaurant from sorrel plants grown on property. Be sure to taste this healthy drink the next time you visit Rosalie Bay.
