Wellness Wednesday: Boat Yoga Pose

Weekly tips to bring island-inspired wellness into your everyday life from the wellness and spa team at Rosalie Bay Resort, Dominica. Post written by Spa and Wellness Coordinator Laura Lund.

This week, we’re highlighting another yoga pose to add to your routine. The boat pose (demonstrated in the photos below by Wellness Coordinator Laura Lund) strengthens your entire core, as well as the legs, lower back and hip flexors.

To practice the boat pose:

  1. Start in a seated position holding your thighs above the knees.
  2. Rock to the back of your sitting bones and lift your feet off the ground.
  3. Slowly extend your legs as much as possible while lengthening your spine.
  4. Hold for 3-10 breaths or 30-60 seconds.

If you want to intensify the pose, lower the trunk and legs to hover a few inches from the floor and exhale back up to boat. Repeat 10 times.

Practice at home and on vacation. Join me and our wellness team in the gazebo at Rosalie Bay for our complimentary yoga classes. We’re also happy to provide private, one-on-one yoga instruction.
