Wellness Wednesday: Native papaya

Weekly tips to bring island-inspired wellness into your everyday life from Rosalie Bay Resort wellness coordinator Laura Lund.

Native to the Caribbean, papaya is a tropical fruit that is nutrient rich and has been used for many medicinal purposes in Dominica. An enzyme found naturally in the fruit aids in digestion and can even reduce the risk of colon cancer.

The papaya is a good source of Vitamins A and C, fiber, folate and potassium. It is also low in calories and sugars, but full of anti-oxidants such as lycopene and beta-carotene. The seeds are also edible and have a peppery flavor.

You can spot papayas growing on trees throughout Rosalie Bay Resort and Dominica. You can also find this native fruit on our breakfast menu at Zamaan restaurant.

Try native papaya with a fruit plate (many people enjoy papaya with a squeeze of fresh lime juice) or a Papaya Smoothie. Then, eat or drink to your good health!
